Why is OverDrive being discontinued? ›

Discontinuing the OverDrive app allows our development teams to focus their efforts on Libby. We also want to make it as easy a possible to promote your digital library to your users.

The OverDrive app for iOS, Android, and Windows 8/10 was discontinued on May 1, 2023 and is replaced by Libby. The OverDrive app for Kindle Fire devices will be discontinued June 7, 2023.

Libby is built by OverDrive, who also developed the legacy OverDrive app. Libby features the same free digital content from your library that you may have enjoyed in the OverDrive app. However, Libby was designed to make finding, borrowing, and enjoying free digital titles easier than ever.

On May 1, 2023, the OverDrive app was discontinued. We encourage you to make the switch to Libby, our newer reading app. Libby is made by the same people, with the same goal of connecting you to your library and to your favorite books, audiobooks, and magazines.

As of May 1, 2023, the OverDrive app will be discontinued.

If you are using the OverDrive app on a Kindle Fire, you can continue to do so, while OverDrive works to make their Libby app compatible with the Kindle Fire.

Which app should I use? If you use one iOS or Android device to browse, download, and read or listen to digital books, we recommend trying Libby. It's a great one-device experience. If you like to read books on many devices, or prefer to browse for new titles on your computer, stick with the OverDrive app for now.

Yes, your current loans and holds from the OverDrive app will be added to Libby as soon as you add your library card.

The easiest setting is to have your device Automatically Download Ev Automatically Download Everything. Once an eBook or Audiobook is downloaded, you will be able to read or listen to it even if you are not connected to WiFi, without using any of your data.

The impetus is to minimize overdrive use and provide a higher ratio first gear, which means more gears between the first and the last to keep the engine at its most efficient speed. This is part of the reason that modern automobiles tend to have larger numbers of gears in their transmissions.
