Creamy whipped coffee (also know as Dalgona Coffee) is a beverage made with instant coffee, sugar (or sweetener), and water. It’s whipped into a creamy coffee and is served cold over chilled milk. This famous tiktok recipe tastes amazing and is a keeper!
Whipped Coffee has officially become my favorite morning coffee. Dalgona coffee recipes and videos have been popping up all over the internet and instagram for the last month, and for a good reason! This stuff is delicious and easy to make!
I usually make fresh coffee, but when we began to prepare for lockdown, I picked up a few jars of organic instant coffee to have on hand just in case. And I’m glad I did! I became addicted to whipped coffee and drank it several times a week (if not more)! I tested the recipe with both sugar, monk fruit, swerve, brown sugar, and honey and each variation tasted wonderful.
This beverage is a real treat and makes me feel like I’m sipping on a delicate coffee made by a Barista.
Whipped Coffee Recipe
You will need two tablespoons of instant coffee, two tablespoons sugar or sugar substitute, 2 tablespoons water and 12 ounces of milk (dairy-free milk alternatives work too).
Mix equal parts of instant coffee and white sugar together in a medium bowl. Add 2 tablespoons of hot water.
Use an electric hand mixer or whisk to whip the coffee until it’s doubled in size and has stiff peaks.
Pour 12-16 ounces of cold milk, cream, coconut milk, almond milk, oat milk, soy milk (or any milk alternative) into a cup and top with the whipped coffee mixture. Add a few ice cubes if you like! Use a straw to stir the foam into the milk. Use immediately, coffee will flatten after a few hours and does not store well in the refrigerator. Serve and enjoy!
Whipped Coffee Variations
- Mocha Whipped Coffee: Add a tablespoon of cocoa powder to the sugar/instant coffee mixture and follow the instructions as directed above. This will make a yummy mocha flavored whipped coffee!
- Pumpkin or Chia Spiced Whipped Coffee: Add a 1/2 teaspoon of chia spices or pumpkin pie spices to the dry mixture before adding the hot water. This version tastes like a whipped pumpkin spice latte!
Other Ways To Use Whipped Coffee
You don’t have to use this just for your morning coffee! This creamy coffee tastes amazing on top ofcoconut ice cream, brownies, and you can even freeze it and enjoy it as a frozen treat!

Does the recipe call for a specific type of instant coffee? I use generic brand and nothing happened after mixing for 10 minutes. How long does mixing normally take?

Same here. I wonder if it’s because I didn’t put sugar in it. I mixed for a long time and nothing happened.

Yes in order to work you need instant coffee. I used dark grassy value Walmart brand .
I use a electric wire wisk and get very stiff fluff. When you add cocoa powder or anything else or use milk instead of hot water it’s a thick airy syrup not a fluffy stiff peaks.
I made it and it does keep in fridge till the next day so 24 hrs in fridge.
I also make a sugar cocoa hot water and it’s just syrupy I bottle it and use it all week long.
Try adding Bailey store bought or hone made Yummy treat
Yes yes use it on ice cream pound cake what we. You don’t need people to agree just do what ever fancies your taste buds.reply to comment

Why doesn’t anyone pour this over ice cream? Coconut Mama, I had expected someone would have thought of this and tried it. I guess not. Thank you for letting me post my comment.

Why did my comment get deleted? It does taste yummy when drizzled over vanilla ice cream. Is there somehing wrong with ice cream? Is this only acceptable as a topping over different types of milk?

Since I don’t really like milk, I used this as a sauce over vanilla ice cream. Very yummy.

Why doesn’t anyone pour this over iced can coconut milk? Coconut Mama, I had expected that instead of almond milk. Will it be too creamy? Just thinking to add fat for the keto diet. I guess I will give it a whirl and try it out myself.

Is there a substitute with powdered chocolate instead of coffee? Would it be the same quantity?
reply to comment
Tiffany - The Coconut Mama
I haven’t tried it but I did read that cocoa powder works in the recipe, same quantities.

If I wanted to add protein powder to this, at which step would I add it? Would I mix it up with the coffee granules, sugar and water? Or mix it in with the milk before adding in the coffee mixture? TIA!
reply to comment
Tiffany - The Coconut Mama
I would mix it into the milk before adding coffee.

Thanks for the recipe! Regular milk is not keto friendly, especially not in the quantity listed.

Yes, we used almond milk and I listed that in the notes as well as in the nutrtional info. 🙂

Just a minor note here: Dalgona coffee (달고나 커피) is actually a Korean thing, not an “American” cuisine.
Thanks for sharing a sugar alternative!

It’s also called a frappé, very popular in Greece. You can make it without sugar of any kind if you don’t like sweet drinks and water can be used as a substitute for milk. Frothy, creamy black coffee. I have made this in various forms over the years as a summer drink and it is delicious. Admittedly my favourite is sweetened, so delicious. ?

I bet if you added some protein powder it would make it really coffee creamy whipped! Just as I am trying to stop drinking coffee……not seeing that happen now….thanks.

I just answered my own question and made it with 1 T instant coffee, 2 tsp honey and 1 T hot water. So easy (definitely use a hand mixer and not a stick blender), and good. Oh, I also added bit of vanilla before whipping and a shot of MCT oil to the soy milk below before warming it.

You used more sweetener by using 2 tsp of honey per 1 Tbl water & Coffee. If you Use 2 Tbl or Coffee and 2 Tbl water and only 1 Tbl of sugar or sweetner.
There is 3 tsp per Tbl.
I do not like sweet coffee but using 2:2:2 ratio you get 2 cups of coffee and it is not very sweet IMHOreply to comment

I just watched many videos about this yesterday and hope to make it today. Will it still work with half the sugar/honey? I don’t like things very sweet, but hate fake sugars, too. Thanks,

I’m confused about the carb/fiber count…. I’ve never used Monk Fruit, but from what I looked up it’s not that much? Thanks – looking forward to trying this!

Tiffany - The Coconut Mama
I updated the nutrition info to make it a little more simple. I used cronometer for the nutritional info, and monk fruit comes up high in sugar alcohols, which count as fiber. Technically, this recipe only has 2 net carbs and it doesn’t have a large amount of real fiber, so I updated it to show the number of net carbs. I hope this helps with confusion! 🙂
